Summer Pony camp – 4 day camp – This 4 day camp features 8 riding sessions, poles, jumping, hacking (where abilities permit), dressage, competitions, rosettes and pony care The week culminates in a show jumping competition on the grass. These camps sell out every year, so please book ahead if you want to take part.

Pony Camp: How long is pony camp

Pony Camps are week-long courses run during school holidays and provide an in-depth knowledge of the care,

stable management

and riding of a pony. They are very popular, so please book early as we have limited spaces available. A non-refundable deposit is taken at the time of booking.

Clothing and accessories Regular everyday casual outfits (clothes you can wear when you are not riding or working around horses like jeans, shorts, t-shirts, etc.) Regular comfortable shoes (tennis/sneakers, sandals, etc.) Nightclothes (sweats, PJs, etc.).

Horse/pony must be 4 years old and over 20. All

attending camp will be served their meals first before any helpers/parents/guardian etc.

A Branch of The Pony Club. Seniors are usually aged 12yrs and upwards depending on their riding ability. There is some flexibility as we look carefully at the children to ensure they are best placed. We have a

large senior membership

mostly who joined as minis.

Activities include cross country practice, flat work, jumping, practical and theoretical stable management, Pony Club achievement badge sessions,

evening events

and demonstrations etc, leaving Somerford Park Farm by 4pm on the Sunday afternoon. We have a very busy schedule but there is time to relax too.

Pony Club: Do you need your own horse for Pony Club

Pony Club Branch Membership is open to anyone under 25 years of age. Members should have access to a horse or pony, by ownership or loan , and have the means to transport the horse or pony to and from rallies and events.

By sharing lessons with top coaches, Pony Club members can access first-class tuition at reasonable prices At some rallies members work on a specific discipline such as dressage, cross country, stable management. Others are general rallies where several different disciplines are covered.

Pony Day: What happens on a pony day

A pony day is all to do with learning about the day to day working of how we look after the ponies. So there will be mucking out, grooming and a riding lesson There will be a study session on different things such as, name the tack, parts of the horse, name the grooming kit etc.

Junior Camp is for children 6 years and over and off the lead rein It is recommended that riders have an adult on site at all times or have gained consent from their Instructor that it is acceptable for their adult to leave site on the proviso that they will be available by phone at all times in case of emergency.

Origins. Pony Club began in Great Britain in 1929 when the Institute of the Horse formed a youth branch of their organisation called “The Pony Club.” It was formed to encourage children to start riding, while providing them with opportunities in the field that they would not be able to reach on their own.
