lead-core line
or more you need a reel with a line capacity of between 350 and 475 yards. Rods for lead-core line are a matter of personal preference There is no perfect lead-core rod, but longer, diver-type rods provide an advantage.
What is a
lead core rod
?
The name itself, “Lead Core” is fairly self explanatory. It is just that, braided line with a lead wire core which results in the line sinking and taking with it whatever lure you put on the end of it.
How deep can you fish with lead core line?
The slower the speed, the deeper the lines will run. At normal walleye trolling speeds, you can figure about 6 feet of depth for each color With segmented lines, let out more mono backing to run deeper. Four colors of segmented line will easily run 30 feet deep or more.
How much backing do you need for lead core line?
The most practical way to rig and fish lead core is to first spoon on about 200 yards of backing line. The backing line can be either monofilament or super braid. Because I rig my
planer boards
for fishing with monofilament, I select 20
pound test monofilament
as my backing line.
Can you use planer boards with lead core line?
If you use leadcore on a planer board, DO NOT put leadcore line in the clip It will break inside core and eventually will break right off. I prefer using deep divers on braided line and add weight if you like.

Should I use backing with braided line?
When you’re putting braided line on your spinning reel, you always want to add some mono backing to the reel first Mono grips into the arbor (the center of the spool) much better than braid does and pretty much guarantees you won’t have issues with the line free spinning when you get a fish on.

Let out 50 feet of line and clip into the release. If that’s not enough distance to prevent your lake’s wary walleyes from seeing the ball.then let out 150 feet of line! Just remember, the flat-line diving depth of your crankbait still applies behind the ball!.

Leadcore line is a depth-generating tool, and its thick diameter requires a stealthy leader to the lure. In clear water, 10- or 12-pound mono or
fluorocarbon leaders
10 to 50 feet long work well. Use longer leaders for spooky fish in clear water.
What fishing line is best for walleye?
The best fishing line for walleye is 8-12 pound test fluorocarbon The fluorocarbon is effectively invisible underwater and does not stretch, making it easy to feel bites. The sensitivity also makes it an incredibly adaptable line and able to use in most scenarios.
