Over the past 20+ years keeping fish, I’ve used Marineland Emperor, ATI HydroSponges, Eheim 2213 and 2215, Tetra Whisper, and most recently, Seachem Tidal filters. All were reliable and capable of maintaining
good water quality
if properly maintained , however, the maintenance required was different on each.
